Strategic Indirect Warfare: You Do Not Need To Know You Are At War To Be At War
Listening. Listening used to mean to give heed or to pay close attention for the purpose of hearing and thereby better understanding. Today it seems we are either deaf or perhaps we feel we already know and therefore no longer need to listen; i.e., in other words, we’re Too Dumb To Live (TDTL).
Case in point, whether we realize it or not, we are currently at war with an unannounced and ill defined alliance of adversaries, both foreign and domestic, who are intent upon redefining the United States, rewriting its Constitution, and destroying our way of life. In point of fact, we have been at war with these same adversaries for the better part of a century without ever acknowledging it. I fear that if we do not awaken to our situation soon, our enemies will have defeated us before we even realize we’re under attack. You may think that sounds dramatic, but it is our current reality. Let me show you what I mean.1
The nature of the war we are currently in is a Strategic Indirect War (SIW); i.e., a war that includes armed force and unarmed force, military and non-military actions, and employs overt and covert tactics waged by a coalition of technologically advanced adversaries working both independently and in coordination as each opportunity to attack us presents itself. An important example was provided by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster when he said that U.S. officials were “increasingly concerned” that Russia was using “sophisticated campaigns of subversion and disinformation and propaganda … to polarize democratic societies.”2
Our adversaries’ objective in SIW is to weaken the United States by dividing us into competing factions, to disrupt our economy and thereby reduce our ability to respond to threats militarily, and ultimately to destroy our faith in our way of life, our elected government, and ourselves.
Who is it we’re not hearing?
You might ask if all the above is true, to whom should we have been listening? While there are several authors that present similar thoughts, few have the insider pedigree and knowledge of my choice as one of the first people to whom we should have been listening, Yuri Bezmenov.3
Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov was a Russian4 agent assigned to conduct disinformation operations in India in the second half of the 20th century. In 1965 he was given the cover of a press officer working for RIA Novosti. His mission was to establish and cultivate Soviet political thinking in India.
From Wikipedia we learn that “In the same year, a secret directive of the Central Committee opened a new secret department in all embassies of the Soviet Union around the world. It was entitled the “Research and Counter-Propaganda Group. In India, ”Bezmenov became a deputy chief of that department, which gathered intelligence from sources like Indian informers and agents, regarding almost every influential or politically significant citizen of India.
Those who favored Soviet expansionist policy into India were promoted to higher positions of power, affluence, and prestige through various KGB/Novosti operations. Those who refused to cooperate with Soviet plans were the target of character assassination in the media and press.”5 familiar?
While working in India Bezmenov lost his belief in his mission and decided to defect to the west when the opportunity presented itself.6
What Is It We’re Not Hearing?
During several on-line interviews, Bezmenov outlined the Russian four phase plan-of-action to convert countries like India and American to their way of thinking.7
In his own words his job description was the “elimination of American exceptionalism, fundamental change of national identity, structural deconstruction of foundational principles, and the “elimination of religion. Embedding a new societal design upon the psyche of generations through ideological academia. Peer pressure by elites upon academics and society to convince that prior values were inherently flawed, racist, prejudiced etc.
National identity is diluted with aspersions toward historical references. National history is re-written, re-defined, and molded to fit the new intended behavioral model and create the new values.”
Bezmenov explained that the Russian ideological subversion plan-of-action consists of four stages which he elucidated as:
Stage One: Demoralization
Elimination of American exceptionalism, fundamental change of national identity, structural deconstruction of foundational principles, elimination of religion. (Here I call upon the god-father of communism to provide justification for inclusion of this principal in the Russian plan)8 Embedding a new societal design upon the psyche of generations through ideological academia. Peer pressure by elites upon academics and society to convince that prior values were inherently flawed, racist, prejudiced etc. (Here we can cite none other than the father of progressive education in America, John Dewey)9 National identity is diluted with aspersions toward historical references. National history is re-written, re-Elimination of American exceptionalism, fundamental change of national identity, structural deconstruction of foundational principles, elimination of religion. National history is re-written, re-defined, and molded to fit the new intended behavioral model and create the new values.10 He also explained that it might take from fifteen to twenty years to demoralize a nation. Why that many years? Because this is the minimum number of years that are required to educate one generation of students in the country of your enemy exposed to the ideology of the enemy. (Here we look to Vladimir Lenin himself for inspiration)11.
Any of this sound familiar?
Stage Two: Crisis
Creation of economic, financial, and national security crisis. (Once again we look to Marx.)12 Their plan-of-action also included the creation of social crisis and the systematic breakdown of previous held self-evident restrictions on moral behavior. Cloward Piven approach to overloading the system; i.e. more takers than producers.13 The crisis produces benevolent leaders who will promise to deliver “things” (Hope and Change) to meet people’s needs through Social and Economic Justice. False illusions that the situation is under control if certain strategic directions are followed (bailouts, stimulus, jobs bills, regulations of industry, unconstitutional power grabs, dismissal of historical laws, changes in legislative processes, changes in checks and balances of power, etc).
Does the denial of real crisis14 or the promoting of false crisis15 sound familiar?
Stage Three: Normalization
The uncomfortable feelings of change including losses of freedom are absorbed and accepted. Lost national identity becomes accepted as the norm within the new societal model.16 A period of national rebranding transition where people are so overwhelmed by the change they become numb and begin to accept a ‘new normal’. This period of normalization lasts indefinitely as the progression is continually advanced and acceptance takes place in small controlled doses. (new limits on behavior, regulations, TSA pat-downs, intrusions into privacy, controls into daily life) (Once again we visit John Dewey)17 These things begin to be accepted as “just the way it is now”. At this point it might be instructive if the reader were to look at the current movements on the part of the left in America to restrict the private ownership of guns and the government’s takeover of medicine.18–19–20.
Any of this sound familiar?
Stage Four: Destabilization
Unlike the period of “Crisis” the people who helped orchestrate the change are now no longer needed. The new overarching centralized governmental model begins to take control. (Leftist usurpers who initially thought they were going to be part of the new power structure begin to realize they were used and manipulated and they themselves become the new enemy. Because they have first hand knowledge of the agenda they are the primary target for elimination. They may simply be disregarded, obfuscated, thrown out, or they may be collected, imprisoned, or worse killed. There is no longer room for dissension.
Dissent is only possible within the free system that has now been deconstructed. (We again visit Vladimir Lenin)21 There the leftist purpose is
served once the destabilization is complete. Totalitarian Government takes control…In other words, Marxist-Leninism ideology is being pumped into the heads of at least three generations of American students without being challenged or counter-balanced by the basic values of Americanism or American patriotism.”22 Any of this sound familiar?
We all should be able to see that if Bezmenov was telling us the truth. We have seen at least two and perhaps three generations of American youth educated in public schools and universities that have been steadily indoctrinating them with the socialists’ view of political reality. Did you realize that even after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the onset of market-economy practices in China, “The Communist Manifesto” still ranks among the three most frequently assigned texts at American universities?23
One need only look back to the 1960’s flower children and trace their steps towards careers in education, journalism and the media to see the truth in Bezmenov’s words. Some notables include:
- Bill Ayers who was a leader of the Weather Underground Organization (WUO) and still an avowed communist who conducted a campaign of domestic bombings during the late 60’s and early 70’s. The WUO’s avowed goal was to create a revolutionary party to overthrow U.S. imperialism. Bill received his doctorate in education from Columbia University and wound up teaching education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).24
- Likewise Bernardine Rae Dorn, Bill’s wife, as member of the WUO, helped to create a “Declaration of a State of War” against the United States government, and was placed on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list, where she remained for three years. From 1991to 2013 she was a Clinical Associate Professor of Law at the Children and Family Justice Center at Northwestern University School of Law.25
- Another example that might shed some light on what has been happening in American education over the past four decades is Michael Klonsky. Few have heard of him, but he is nevertheless an important figure in public education.26 When Ayers and Dorn broke with the Students for a Democratic Society and formed the WUO, Klonsky set off in another direction and set up the October League who’s name later changed to the “Communist Party” (Marxist Leninist), CP(ML) that was officially recognized by the Chinese Communist Party as a U.S. fraternal party. Klonsky received a doctorate in education and like Ayers taught education at UIC. Most notably, he was named by president Bill Clinton to the Academic Advisory Council of the National Campaign Against Youth Violence, where he advocated small schools as a mechanism for violence reduction.27 He expessed his views on education in the following fashion:
- “Successful social justice education ensures that teachers strike a balance between debating sociopolitical problems that affect children’s lives and teaching them academic basics on which they will be tested.
- A science teacher can plant an urban garden, allowing students to learn about plant biology, the imbalance in how fresh produce is distributed and how that affects the health of community residents.
- An English teacher can explore misogyny or materialism in American culture through the lens of hip-hop lyrics, or
- As Rico Gutstein, a professor of mathematics education at the University of Illinois, Chicago, suggests, a math teacher can run probability simulations using real data to understand the dynamics behind income inequality or racial profiling. These are “examples of lessons where you can really learn the math basics,” he says, “but the purpose of learning the math actually becomes an entree into, and a deeper understanding of, the political ramifications of the issue.”28
Let’s Wrap This Up
I believe Americans are neither deaf nor TDTL. I believe we have been engaged in an SIW with foreign and domestic leftists for the past century. I believe knowledge of that war has been largely kept from most Americans. I believe our enemies have made some remarkable inroads into our societal structures, for example in education, the media, and politics. Damage has indeed been done and continues to be done, but the bottom line is, we’re a long way from defeated.
You might ask yourself, “Why didn’t I know this was going on?” The answer is obvious – the lame-stream media is complicit in these attacks and has therefore willfully kept a great deal of pertinent information from you.29
What Should We Do?
Americans who find our way of life being threatened. Shine the light of truth on the leftists’ plan for America and who is really promoting it.
The First Thing We Should Do Is Build The Wall
The left has been telling us the border crisis is a manufactured crisis. Listen to them. They are telling you their plan. It is indeed a manufactured crisis, but not in the way the left would like you to believe.
Remember Cloward and Piven, the leftist professors who outlined a plan to bankrupt the nation by overstuffing all public programs? While many on the right think the left wants to keep the southern border open to flood the country with folks that are likely to vote for the left in the future, and there is some truth in that, the left’s primary reason is really the implementation of the Cloward Piven plan.
Recall Yuri Bezmenov’s second phase, create a crisis that looks insurmountable and then step in with Government controls and more Government programs. Here’s where Cloward and Piven take on an ominous reality. The presence of the folks overwhelming our southern border is being encouraged, and their journey north financially supported by leftist groups, primarily for the purpose of creating that economic crisis.
How many of the unfortunate folks entering over the southern border end up on publicly funded programs like food stamps, housing, and healthcare? The number is surely very large. In our current economic boom perhaps America can afford the additional financial burden, but all economies cycle and in time ours will too. When it does, public welfare, having been purposefully over burdened, will implode.30 Sound vaguely familiar (refer back to Stage 2: Crisis)?
The Second Thing Is To Know What the Schools Are Teaching Your Children
Next, we should all become attuned to what your children are being taught in their schools and provide a level-headed balancing point-of-view to the leftist propaganda to which they might have been exposed.
The Third Thing We Should Do Is Use the Department of Education to Enforce the Constitution
Here’s an interesting dilemma to consider. In my opinion, Jimmy Carter’s Department of Education is clearly unconstitutional and should have been challenged in court long ago.31 Yet it still does exist. That being the case, why not use the Department of Education to enforce the constitution by withholding federal monies from those institutions of learning that do not support the constitution (i.e. do not promote and protect freedom of speech on their campuses?)32
Finally, Be Politically Astute
Become attuned to what you hear your politicians saying and more importantly doing with regard to the plan-of-action set forth by Yuri Brezmenov. Then try to determine for yourself whose agenda the politicians are really supporting and if they are doing so knowledgeably or out of ignorance. Then use your right to vote to defend America.
