Our Sunday Message for February 26, 2023, is called “Resisting the Power of Corruption.” I focus specifically on corruption in the government and the body of Christ. Yesterday also marks the first week of the Season of Lent.

Lent is a time for reflection. Walking with God while you fight the fleshly desires that may have taken root in your life. We draw our 40 days of reflecting and resisting from Jesus’ 40 days of fasting.

This time of fasting was a vulnerable time for Jesus. He was tired, hungry, and thirsty, but he pressed on. Satan used every form of manipulation to play on His humanity, but Jesus remained triumphant. 

No amount of physical sustenance or heavenly power that Satan could offer would sway Jesus’s steadfastness. Satan knew he only had a short time left before death was no more. And since this fast marked the beginning of Jesus’s public ministry, he offered all of the comforts of the world and the heavens in hopes that Jesus would hand all power to him. 

However, Satan’s cunning was no match for Jesus then, and that truth remains the same today.

Spiritual oppression takes the same shape in each of our lives today. As God’s people, we should do our very best to refrain from willful sin, and in turn, we should avoid any leader that is not committed to the same moral compass.

This week, examine your own life and personal dealings with sin. Can you identify sin in the lives of your public leaders?

Will you resist the passions of the flesh to remain faithful and true?

Learning to lean on God for satisfaction instead of the things the Devil has to offer is a lesson much more powerful than “I gave up eating cake for Lent.”
