September 11^th observes the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America, most commonly referred to as 9/11.

Did you know that historically, there are a total of 5 significant attacks on September 11^th? 1565 – The Great Siege / The Knights of Malta (excerpted from Wikipedia)

September 11th – The Great Siege of Malta

Occurred in 1565 when the Ottoman Empire tried to invade the island of Malta, which was occupied by the Knights Hospitaller, commonly known as the Knights of Malta. The Knights, with approximately 2,000 foot-soldiers and 400 Maltese men, women, and children, withstood the Ottoman siege and repelled the invaders. The victory is known as one of the most celebrated events of sixteenth-century Europe

1683, Battle of Vienna (excerpted from Wikipedia)

September 11th – The Battle of Vienna occurred at Kahlenberg Mountain near Vienna on 11 September 1683 after the imperial city had been besieged by the Ottoman Empire for two months. The battle was fought by the Holy Roman Empire led by the Habsburg Monarchy and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, both under the command of King John III Sobieski, against the Ottomans and their vassal and tributary states. The battle marked the first time the Commonwealth and the Holy Roman Empire had cooperated militarily against the Ottomans, and it is often seen as a turning point in history, after which “the Ottoman Turks ceased to be a menace to the Christian world”. In the ensuing war that lasted until 1699, the Ottomans lost almost all of Hungary to the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I.

1697, Battle of Zenta (excerpted from Wikipedia)

September 11th – The Battle of Zenta (also known as the Battle of Zenta), was fought on 11 September 1697, near Zenta, Ottoman empire (today Senta, Serbia), between Ottoman and Holy League armies during the Great Turkish War. The battle was the most decisive engagement of the war, and it saw the Ottomans suffer an overwhelming defeat by an Imperial force one third as large commanded by Prince Eugene of Savoy.

The September 11 attacks (often referred to as 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks resulted in 2,977 fatalities, over 25,000 injuries, and substantial long-term health consequences, in addition to at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. 9/11 is the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States, with 343 and 72 killed, respectively.

2012, Benghazi Attack (excerpted from Wikipedia)

September 11th – The 2012 Benghazi attack was a coordinated attack against two United States government facilities in Benghazi, Libya, by members of the Islamic militant group Ansar al-Sharia.

At 9:40 p.m., September 11, members of Ansar al-Sharia attacked the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi resulting in the deaths of U.S. Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens and U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith. At around 4:00 a.m. on September 12, the group launched a mortar attack against a CIA annex approximately one-mile (1.6 km) away, killing CIA contractors Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty and wounding ten others. Initial analysis by the CIA, repeated by top government officials, indicated that the attack spontaneously arose from a protest. This was a lie published by the Obama Administration. It was actually an attempt to create in the public imagination that idea that the war on terror had already been won by Obama.

Subsequent investigations showed that the attack was premeditated, and the date of September 11th was intentionally selected as “pay back” for multiple defeats of Muslim armies by Christian armies in the 1500s and 1600s.
