Rev. Dean Nelson serves as the Chairman of the Board for The Frederick Douglass Foundation and The Douglass Leadership Institute (DLI). The Douglass Leadership Institute (DLI) is a national education and public policy 501(c)(3) organization with representatives and groups across the United States. DLI’s philosophy is based upon the sanctity of human life, the promotion of free market principles, and limited government. Founded in 2015, DLI is the brainchild of Dean Nelson, a minister and veteran political and pro-life leader.
Through years of working with African American churches and advocacy for biblical worldview in the marketplace, it became clear to Dean that there was a need to bridge the gap between African American faith-based institutions, civil government and the civic world. Thus, DLI was created to develop a network of faith-based leaders across the nation and provide them with uniquely tailored programs, information and social networking that will engage, equip and empower men and women of faith to not only take positions of leadership and prominence in cities and businesses but to also be equipped with biblical worldview values to shape and influence policy in our nation.
Rev. Nelson is also the National Outreach Director for Human Coalition, in the Washington, D.C. area, with over 20 years of success directing nonprofit organizations and with an emphasis on urban strategies, grassroots organization, and national leadership training. He has worked for major pro-life and Christian organizations, including Global Outreach Campus Ministries and Care Net, where he managed an annual budget of more than $1 million. As part of the Wellington Boone Ministries’ senior strategic planning team, Dean helped plant ministries in capital cities such as Richmond, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia; Raleigh, North Carolina; and the greater Washington, D.C. area. And United Way recognized him for his work in bringing people together for a common cause.
Rev. Nelson is a sought-after speaker and has appeared on the 700 Club, CBN News, MSNBC, Bott Radio Network and American Family Radio. To learn more about Rev. Nelson and DLI visit www.dlinstitute.org, and for the Human Coalition visit www.humancoalition.org.
